They cut through the Earth, to create this canal.
Development led to a series of Basins being dug, which filled with water coming from, not only the canal, but the skies too.
Originally , the Wind carried ships down the canal – using their sails, but nowadays these boats are powered by fuel…and its not materials they carry, but people.
in response to cees photography challenge
To start with, here’s a night time shot of the Holiday inn express on Salford’s Quayside, taken at
Dusk by one of the Docks or as the people call them now basins 🙂
You could call this a 3D shot – as it was
Dark as well !
The canal is pretty
and joins up to the river irwell and mersey Deep,
The Ducks of Oludeniz – taking cover from the sun
This shot was taken during a family holiday to the Turkish Resort of Oludeniz. The beach was teaming with wildlife, maybe down to the hordes of fish that sat in the clear blue waters by the sand. The
Ducks raised a smile as they waddled about in the sea.
Shining in the bright moonlight
holding her beauty by the waters edge
in the way she reflects herself in the water
maybe she will catch someone’s eye
mariners on the hunt for precious cargo
expecting to find valuables where she is

Some say its easy, splashing your feet along the sea on a
Hot summers day, but its important to be
Aware of your surroundings
Lots of people like to dive into that
Long stretch of blue water –
Only they know their limitations
When they wade into it – don’t go in too deep!

an acrostic response to the prompt
2nd July 2017
So here we are, by one of the lakes
Chasing sticks with the pet dog on the marina sands
As little dogs go, he’s very clever
Missing fewer than he catches
Pressing his paws into the soft brown sand
Expecting you to chase him after catching every stick
Really nice way to spend a summers afternoon

It’s funny – how
night after night
fresh tea leaves bring flavour
under a little bit of help from
some boiling water
enjoy it with milk and sugar – or perhaps some lemon?

You could almost mistake them for the real thing
confused Canada geese try to eat them as an appetiser before lunch
they seem to float gently on the waters edge
easy pickings for our feathered friends
Bubbles arise from deep below
but clever fish they do not show
as anglers sit along canal bank
the hiding oxygenator fish have to thank
but with one move of a beak
illusions are shattered –
disappearing in ripples
across the water
A response to the reflecting prompt, taken at Salford Quays recently
Sunset Reflecting on Ontario Basin, Salford Quays, Lancashire UK
Taken by me using my Sony DSC-H300 camera – using sunset mode and continuous frame.
Had a while to wait for the sun to duck below the clouds, but i’m happy with the end result and the colours in the water and sky.
Anyone wondering about the buoys in the water – this is where the watersports centre do their windsurfing, canoeing and line surfing.
