In the dawn light of a winters morning

its very hard to see

why the important man with his

very important briefcase

should be stood at the platform

getting covered in snow

if he’d listened to the announcer –

a bus arrived two minutes ago

but he let it pass

and like an ass

he stands there in the snow

in the Dim light of the station

Will he catch his train….hmmm? No.

It’s that bit, where the sky meets the sea

the place where sun and moon go up and down

to tell the difference tween day and night

an elusive fellow by nature

as he looks so far away when you look at him

by the time you think you’ve got to where he is

he’s either ten miles in front – or stood behind you

Rescued from the reject bin

Salford, 17th November 2017

A little dusty here or there

his coat could do with a mend

stuffing coming from a paw

this old bear needs a friend

See all the animals are off to the shops

apart from those that look like they’ve been dropped

now little bear, he wouldnt really mind

if the factory would be a little bit kind

A button for his jacket

and some thread for his paw

and a chance to be hugged

nothing less, nothing more

But just as factory is being shut down

a little lad is being shown round

over by bin – he sees the bear’s frown

and little bears luck is turned around

For in days to come, what fun there will be!

With new tops and buttons – and teddy bears teas…

He may be imperfect – said the boy as he roamed

but he’s my favorite bear – as they head off for home!

Halloween night, has children with cheers

until the nasty little ghoul appears

nosying around the kids nighttime treats

taking his time to sample their eats

invoking the cheerful to burst into tears

now leaving the kiddies with something to fear

getting them wishing for All Hallows’ day

(when the ghoul disappears by sneaking away)

Shimmer v2

Several drops of sun protection

happily playing in the hotel pool

In the knowledge they’ll be joined by others soon

Moments of the summers appearance

Make rainbows appear on the pools surface as

Excited little sun oil drops get

Round together to play on the water

a late night poem, rewritten from my notebooks – enjoy.

In cold damp and dark

out in the park

a small brown toadstool

sits hiding in the grass

shy and retiring

not best in its class

sheltered by reeds, in the wind and rain

camouflauged by the grass

drinking slowly from the drain

Middlewood scout camp, Worsley, Salford

Maybe it was

in the act of “doing our duty” that the

dedication of raising and lowering the union flag each

day at camp, reminded those

little or big, to “do their best”

even in the smallest of acts – from

washing the pots , to keeping their tent clean

over time, we’d learn a lot at that campsite – but we’d always

observe the traditions of flagbreak, each

day and evening
