Lemonade

Written for National Poetry Month – A Tale of Lemons and Lemonade

If life gives you lemons
make lemonade,

Yellow like sunshine
sharp but – somehow sweet

An acid taste
brought down by sugar

A tale of life embodied
in a single fruit

Grown in a sun drenched orchard
on trees with waxy leaves

You started green – but soon grew
as you lost your pigment blue

and squashed in a press
you gave up your juice
and entering fizz
let your flavours loose

Sign of summer – embodied
in every colourful sun drenched bubble
